Summative Assessment
As a way of assessing the students and allowing time for reflection, the students will design a presentation about one social media website or application that they use fairly often in their daily lives. They will need to critically analyze the benefits and disadvantages of using the site or application, and present it in a way that they feel most comfortable ( iMovie, Pixie Presentation, Educreate, Aurasma etc.). The students will also need to include how they think this website or application has altered or shifted their perspectives in regards to pop culture (fashion, celebrities, musical taste, and movies). Finally, the students will research how much time the average American spends using this website or application (per day or per week), and using this research create their own hypothesis for how much time one should spend on the site or application if they have an account or possess access to it (per day or per week). This presentation will be done in the form of a mini exhibition, so the students have time to discuss their findings with their peers and even share their research with other classes or grades. Provided is a rubric, so students can see how they will be assessed.
*This rubric was designed using the "rubistar" website. Under the "Multimedia"category button, there is the option for a rubric on a multimedia project. The rubrics on the website are able to be edited, so if the category is too vague or specific it can altered. I have attached a sample of the rubric I felt would be best suited for this activity. I did not create the "rubistar" website.
